# Work in AutoCAD

> Connect the right DWG, describe a drawing task and inspect the editable result.

Use Ideatura with AutoCAD to work on an existing drawing or recreate a drawing reference. Start with a clear task, such as adding grid dimensions, and check the result in the DWG.

## 1. Connect the drawing

Open and save your drawing in AutoCAD. Use the controls in the screenshot:

* Connected Apps: open the application and document selector.
* AutoCAD drawing: select the exact DWG—here, Leadenhall\_Structural\_GA\_v1.dwg in AutoCAD 2026 (shown as A26). If several drawings are open, confirm the selected filename and the model or layout you intend to work in.

Check the drawing units before requesting dimensions or geometry. See [Connect your model](https://beta.docs.ideatura.ai/beta/overview/connections.md) for connection help.

## 2. Prepare a drawing sheet

Describe the change in plain language: “Arrange the structural elevation and framing plan on an A3 sheet. Add overall dimensions, view labels and a title block. Keep the source geometry unchanged.”

Confirm the connected drawing in the selector, then send the request.

This Leadenhall structural study shows an east-frame elevation and a Level 06 framing plan on sheet LH-S-001. The DWG contains native dimensions, separate drawing layers and locked layout viewports. Compare the values, placement and readability with your source geometry before accepting the result.

## 3. Recreate a drawing reference

Follow [Screenshot to AutoCAD](https://beta.docs.ideatura.ai/beta/guides/draw/markup/recreate-a-floor-plan-screenshot-in-autocad.md) to work from a floor-plan image toward an editable DWG. Provide a known dimension or scale, then compare the geometry, layers and labels with the reference.

## 4. Choose the output

Use an editable DWG when the work belongs in AutoCAD. If you need native Revit elements from a vector drawing, follow [DWG to Revit](https://beta.docs.ideatura.ai/beta/guides/model/reference-model/reconstruct-a-dwg-as-a-revit-model.md) and review that example’s inputs and limitations.

## 5. Inspect and save

Review the result in AutoCAD, including units, missing or repeated items and anything that should have stayed unchanged. Save the DWG after checking it. Use [Review and recover](https://beta.docs.ideatura.ai/beta/essentials/how-to-talk-to-ai.md#correct-the-part-that-needs-changing) for corrections or [Supported tasks](https://beta.docs.ideatura.ai/beta/get-started/welcome.md#what-you-can-do) for work outside these examples.
