# Viewers and markup

> Inspect references beside the conversation, capture views and add markup.

Use a viewer to read a drawing beside your chat. Mark the part you mean, then ask a specific question or describe the change you want. For example, circle a roof junction and ask Ideatura to explain its layers.

## 1. Side panels

Open a file beside the conversation to read it while you work. Use the file tabs to switch references and the panel boundary to adjust the space. Closing a preview leaves the file in place.

An image attachment can also open over the conversation. Click it to inspect the image, then close the preview with X. The cabinet section below is shown at its original size; use the preview's scrollbars to inspect the rest of the drawing.

## 2. Capture a view

Connect your application, then click Connected App screen capture at the upper right of the message box. In the live-view tab, click Capture to open an image of the current view in a new tab. The example below shows a Garden Office Revit plan image opened in Studio.

For a drawing or photograph saved as a file, use Attach file in the message box and add your request.

![Full Studio window with the cabinet section image attached to an unsent review request.](https://mintcdn.com/ideatura-preview/TWzcvTaStOCEp2mF/beta/images/studio/windows/portrait-composer-real-image-attachment.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=TWzcvTaStOCEp2mF\&q=85\&s=c0586706102fa93f11415937da8401b8)

Use Fit page to see the whole drawing, or Fit width and Fit height to fill the viewer in one direction. Zoom in when you need to read a detail.

Choose Clip and drag around the detail you want to discuss. The area outside your selection dims, helping you check what the crop includes before attaching it.

## 3. Add markup

Use Pen, Text or a shape to mark the detail you want to discuss. Choose a contrasting colour and add a short request, such as “Explain the clear space around this WC.” For a change, say what should move or change size and include exact dimensions where needed.

![Studio with a red rectangle selected on the WC diagram, resize handles and the markup toolbar.](https://mintcdn.com/ideatura-preview/Gx2zWggm-yZCFxBA/beta/images/studio/windows/pdf-markup.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=Gx2zWggm-yZCFxBA\&q=85\&s=b4ddcb21b890df8735e34f8280ad794d)

## 4. Edit markup

Use Eraser, Undo markup and Redo markup to correct your marks. Clear markup removes them so you can start again. Review the marked detail before sending your request.

## 5. Viewer actions

Use Attach to add the visible image or PDF area, or your selected crop, to the next message with its markup. Pin keeps the file available throughout the conversation; Unpin removes it from that context. Clone makes your own copy in Workbench. Check the attachment before sending.

![Studio with the selected PDF detail attached to the message and the Attach, Pin and Clone viewer actions visible.](https://mintcdn.com/ideatura-preview/TWzcvTaStOCEp2mF/beta/images/studio/windows/pdf-attached-clip.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=TWzcvTaStOCEp2mF\&q=85\&s=1203540c030067b86506e512aa0dd34c)

## 6. Save viewer files

Use Download in the viewer’s top bar to save the file to your computer. Download is also available for formats Studio cannot preview. For model downloads and temporary section views, follow [IFC viewer](https://beta.docs.ideatura.ai/beta/overview/ifc.md#save-drawing).

## 7. Read a PDF

Use Previous page, Page number and Next page to find the drawing, then fit or zoom the page to read it. Name the page or diagram in your request. Here, Diagram 18 in *Approved Document M, Volume 2: Buildings other than dwellings*, with 2024 amendments, is on printed page 51 but PDF page 53.
